Dr. Manisha Priyam, Professor of Education Policy at the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi delivered a Distinguished Lecture on Building Universities that Matter: The Context of India Today on September 23, 2022 at the University of Hyderabad.

In her talk which was attended by students, faculty and officials, Dr. Priyam asserted, “There are still Himalayan barriers in the way for our girls to come to great institutions in the country”. “In the South of Vindyachal region, the ratio of students and colleges is very good when compared to Northern India. We have a strong foundation of public universities and institutions; however these institutions must become Sarthak (Meaningful) by providing for global needs”, she added.

While concluding her talk Dr. Priyam remarked, “Regional variation forms a boundary and the question is: do we have the tools to end these variations? If we do this, our seat of learning will become Sarthak in the real sense”.

Prof. B J Rao, Vice-Chancellor, while giving the presidential remarks earlier said, “Universities are the best places to create ideas. When the rest of the Western World is aging, we must do things which will impact the world as we are a very strong, young, independent and free nation.”

Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar gave the welcome address, introduced the guest and proposed words of thanks at the end of the lecture.
