The NSS Cell, University of Hyderabad, organized the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” plantation drive on 14 August 2026 at 4:00 pm at the premises of the New Women’s Hostel, North Campus, opposite the Yoga Centre. The initiative sought to promote environmental sustainability while paying tribute to mothers through the symbolic act of tree plantation. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. B. Krishnaiah, NSS Coordinator, UoH. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers, who planted saplings to contribute to a greener and healthier campus. The drive encouraged students to take responsibility for environmental conservation while expressing gratitude and respect for their mothers.

The event was graced by Dr. Bashetty Latha, Associate Professor, Department of Telugu, School of Humanities, and Mr. Subba Rao, Department of Horticulture, who inspired the students by highlighting the urgent need for environmental protection in the face of rising global pollution. Addressing the volunteers, Dr. Latha emphasized that each student should adopt at least one tree, nurture it with regular care, and take responsibility for its healthy growth during their stay on the campus. She underscored that protecting and nurturing trees is both a duty towards nature and a commitment to a sustainable future.
The staff of the horticulture department assisted the NSS volunteers in preparing the site, providing saplings and plantation activity ensuring the success of the programme. The plantation drive concluded with a collective pledge to safeguard nature and foster a greener campus. The event not only advanced the cause of environmental sustainability but also conveyed a powerful message of love, gratitude, and responsibility towards both mothers and Mother Nature.
