The 3rd International Day of Yoga celebrations were organized by the Physical Education & Sports Department, University of Hyderabad (UoH) on June 21, 2017 at the New Sports Complex, UoH.
Prof. B.P. Sanjay, Pro-Vice Chancellor was the chief guest on the occasion. Prof. Sanjay said that Yoga should be the way of life for health and vitality. He also stressed the importance of Yoga in the regular studies.
Dr. V.V.B.N. Rao, former Physical Director UoH, Yoga expert and resource person on yoga said that “The art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual’s mind, body and soul. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind; it helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxing. It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. It improves respiration, energy and vitality. Practicing yoga might seem like just stretching, but it can do much more for your body from the way you feel, look and move.” He also mentioned about the “Ashtanga Yoga “and its importance in daily life.
Prof. Prakash Babu, Dean, Student’s Welfare said about the importance of Yoga in daily-today-life.
International and National Gold Medalists of National Yoga and Culture Federation Championship winners were invited for demonstration. Students from the UoH have also demonstrated yogasanas. And there was a general Yoga Protocol by AYUSH was practiced by all participants and enjoyed the yogasanas.
A Classical dance by Miss. Neha Thillana in Bharat Natyam Style dance performed were highly appreciable and also there was a thunderous Vishnu Sthuthi Kuchipudi Style dance by UOH students.
In connection with the International Day of Yoga an essay writing competition was conducted with the topic “Relevance of Yoga in Wellness Management” in addition to Yogasana competitions were conducted under four divisions (Under 15 Boys & Girls and above 15 male & female) and prizes were given to all the winners and certificates were for all the participants. Master Vivek Sai and Baby Sri Vidya got first prize below 15 years category, Mr. Santosh M and Ms. M. Himabindhhu got first prize above 15 years category and Mr. Venkataiah G and Ms. Nagalaxmi Settenapalli got first prize senior category while Ms. E. Harshitha won the first prize in Essay Writing Competition.
About 100 participants including the faculty, students and staff took part in the International Day of Yoga celebrations which was a grand success.
