The Centre for Health Psychology, School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) in collaboration with National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), Hyderabad & Association of Health Psychologists (AHP) is organizing a National Seminar on “Health Psychology: Contributions to Health and Well-being” from August 4 to 6, 2016 at the School of Humanities Auditorium.

While inaugurating the National Seminar Prof. Appa Rao, Vice-Chancellor, UoH said that this seminar will bring Professionals, Medicine, Technology together and related professionals like talks, discussions sharing and exchange of contemporary research outcomes. Prof. Rao wished the seminar attains the objectives and paves way for future directions in enhancement of health and well-being.

Prof. Girishwar Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University gave the key note address titled ‘Future of human health and well-being’. Prof. Mishra said that in many regions infectious diseases continue to pose threats, especially for the very young, the old and those with compromised immune systems. He said that recently media has started attending to public issues including exercise, proper diet and quitting smoking. Successful aging and quality of life add another important dimension to the discourse of health, he added.

Dr. CH. Mohan Rao, Director, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology gave the inaugural address. Dr. CH. Mohan Rao said to pay more attention to prevention for health maintenance and well-being. He said that health, education and disease prevention are more important than interventions for cure.

Prof. Meena Hariharan, Head Centre for Health Psychology, President AHP & Organizing Secretary spoke about the theme of the Seminar. Prof. Geeta K Vemuganti, Dean, School of Medical Sciences spoke on Holistic Health: Significance of Health Psychology, while Dr. G. Padmaja, Assistant Professor, Centre for Health Psychology proposed the vote of thanks.
