Mr Aniruddha Naik, Ph.D  Research Scholar from the Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), working with Prof. G Nagaraju, presented his paper titled “Contemporary trends in Sexuality: A Cinematic Odyssey in Bollywood” at the 7th Annual South Asia Conference, organised by Ireland India Institute, Dublin City University held during April 24-26, 2024.

Bollywood is known for maintaining “culture of silence” on sex and sexuality themes till recently. The paper traces that though the Indian epistemology celebrates the sex and sexuality but Victorian morality pushes it to the private domain. However, in the recent periods, there has been a paradigm shift in addressing the various themes related to sexuality and sex education in Bollywood movies due to progressive movements in India.

The scholars from south Asia gathered at the conference to discussed and debates on various themes such as religion, Gender, Environment, sexuality, rituals, Dalit and so on.

Aniruddha would like to thank University of Hyderabad for the IOE financial assistance.
