Professor Balasubramanian Senthilkumaran, faculty member of the Department of Animal Biology, in the School of Life Sciences (SLS) at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been elected as Fellow of the of the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. He has been elected based on his pioneering work in the field of Fish Molecular Endocrinology and Reproductive Biology.

Prof. Balasubramanian has done his M. Phil from University of Madras and Ph. D from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. His areas of research include Fish Molecular Endocrinology, Molecular Reproductive Biology, Neuroendocrinology and Developmental Biology. He has done pioneering work in the field of Fish endocrinology understanding the gamete maturation.

Prof. Senthilkumaran has received awards like Young Scientist Award, ESCE, the Netherlands (1994), STA fellow, NRIA, Mie, Japan (1996-1998), JSPS & JST fellow, NIBB, Okazaki, Japan, (1998-2003), Visiting Scientist, CUHK, Hong Kong (December, 2006-January, 2007), Visiting Professor, NIPS, Okazaki, Japan (2008, 2011), JSPS Invitation Fellow, 2011-12, University of Miyazaki, Miyazaki, Japan, Prof. Senthilkumaran is Guest Editors Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, Springer, the Netherlands, and General and Comparative Endocrinology (Elsevier).

He is also an Academic Editor, PLoS One, from 2011 onwards and also Editorial board member for Gene, Gene Reports (Elsevier) from 2012. He is elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad and AP Akademi of Sciences. He is the proud recipient of prestigious DBT-TATA Innovation Fellowship in 2014.
