Music , as rightly been said by Plato- is a moral law, it gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imaginations and charm and gaiety to life and everything. SPIC MACAY- University of Hyderabad (UoH) Sub-Chapter, like previous three years, has the privilege of organising the very unique and prestigious ‘SPIC MACAY Yamini 2013’, with a Qawwali concert by Warsi Brothers as curtain raiser program on Aug. 07, 2013.
SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) aims at introducing Indian cultural heritage to the youth with a hope that the beauty, grace and wisdom embodied in it, will become an integral part of this life; whatever its dreams and aspirations may be, Indian classical music and dance forms, carrying with them generations of wisdom dating back to antiquity, become the chief medium of creating awareness in students.
SPIC MACAY seeks to conserve and promote an awareness of the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst the youth of this country through focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy and to facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler values.
The programme started with the lamp lighting ceremony by Shri Jayesh Ranjan (IAS), MD, APIIC and Prof. Ramakrishna Ramaswamy, VC, UoH. The performance by Warsi Brothers- Shri Nazeer Ahmed Khan and Shri Naseer Ahmed Khan and the group kept the audience engaged and mesmerised. The two brothers sang rapturously of the glory and mystery of the almighty, His inscrutable ways, His grace and beauty manifest in the things of this world. The music was pleasant enough, punctuated by energetic bouts of virtuoso vocal call esthenics. They represented a non-denominational religiosity which one can understand and appreciate intellectually. To varying degrees, such mystical expressions have flowered in every human culture. The performance had driven the audience to heavenly ecstasy. The spectators were awestruck by the beautiful poetry blended with great music of compositions like Khwaja Mere Khwaja, Dama Dum Mast Kalandar, Diwane Ki Nazaroon Ko Zamana Dektha Hai to name a few.
The programme served very well as the Curtain raiser programme for the 4th annual classical overnight concert SPIC MACAY UoH Yamini 2013 on the Independence Day eve. Performing artistes for this year’s Yamini are: Shri Kottakkal Chandrasekharan & group (Kathakali), Malladi Brothers (Carnatic Vocal), Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (Hindustani Vocal), Dr. Kamala Shankar (Shankar Guitar) and Shri Manda Ananthakrishna (Carnatic Flute).
