My journey has been one of quiet determination, persistence, and a deep belief that dreams can indeed come true—no matter where you start. Growing up in a rural town in Rayalaseema, Andhra Pradesh, the path wasn’t easy, but it was one I walked with hope in my heart and a strong belief in the power of education. Despite the limited resources and the societal constraints often found in rural life, my parents always encouraged me to pursue my dreams—especially through education. Their unwavering support laid the foundation for everything that followed.

I was always committed to my studies, and this dedication paid off. I stood in the first division throughout my 10th grade, intermediate, and B.Sc. And the moment that changed everything for me came during my third year of B.Sc. One day, I saw a campus interview for the University of Hyderabad (HCU) on TV9, and I dreamed of pursuing my master’s at HCU. That moment sparked a dream that would fuel my determination for years to come. I promised myself that I would study at HCU, and through sheer will and hard work, I prepared for the Central Entrance Examination for Biotechnology (CEEB), securing my place at HCU.

At HCU, I had the opportunity to explore my passion for science. My academic journey was fulfilling, and I graduated with the University Medal—an incredible honor. I then moved on to pursue my Ph.D. at the CSIR – Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) with CSIR fellowship, where my research on microbial biosurfactants led to a national and international patent.

Along the way, I was fortunate to be recognized with several prestigious fellowships and grants. In 2018, I was awarded the UGC Dr. DS Kothari Post-Doctoral Fellowship, which allowed me to expand my research and provide innovative solutions for antimicrobial-resistant diabetic foot ulcers. In 2023, I received the American Society for Microbiology’s ASM Future Leaders Mentoring Fellowship, a program that connected me with some of the best minds globally in microbiology and mentored me on my journey. I was also honored to receive the Nidhi Prayaas Prototype Development Grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and an International Travel Support Grant from the Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB).

One of the proudest moments in my career was when I became a Life Member of the UNESCO Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). This honor gave me the chance to connect with women scientists worldwide and advocate for more women in STEM fields. Today I am fortunate to contribute for the success of Women in their education and entrepreneurial journey.

Now, I’m the founder and Managing Director of UCHA Herbs Pvt Ltd, a company focused on developing herbal antibiotics, addressing antimicrobial resistance, and working on sustainable packaging solutions. With patented technologies, we aim to make a real impact on both the health and environmental sectors by providing innovative, effective solutions to pressing global challenges. I also serve in leadership roles, such as being the State President for the Microbiologists Society India in Andhra Pradesh and an Academic Counsellor for Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), an Approved Reviewer for Bentham Science Publishers, and a mentor for the Women Entrepreneur Platform (WEP), Niti Aayog, Government of India. These roles provide me the opportunity to guide and mentor young researchers, promote scientific collaboration, and advocate for innovation in biotechnology and microbiology.

I’ve also had the privilege of training with the United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT) and the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) program by the US Consulate Hyderabad. These experiences have helped me grow as a leader and empowered me to support women entrepreneurs in their journeys.

Reflecting on my journey—from a small rural town to now leading my own company with global aspirations—I feel incredibly grateful. My story is a reminder that no matter where you start, or what challenges you face, you can achieve your dreams with hard work, dedication, and a belief in yourself. Every step, every fellowship, every recognition, and every achievement has been part of a bigger purpose: to contribute to the world of science, help others along the way, and work toward a better, more sustainable future.

The University of Hyderabad played a pivotal role in laying the foundation of courage, commitment, and leadership in me, helping me successful.

Today, when I look back at the path I’ve walked—from a small rural town to a recognized name in the scientific community—I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. My journey is a reminder that no dream is too big and no background too humble to achieve success. Every challenge, setback, and triumph has been part of my story, and it is this story that I hope will inspire others to believe in themselves and pursue their own dreams, no matter where they start.

Dreams do come true, and with determination, passion, and hard work, anything is possible.
